This historical place belongs to the village of Dedigama. It is mentioned in books and folklore as a Dagaba which was built to commemorate the birth of King Parakumba the Great. "Sutighara" means the place of birth. A book published by the Ministry of Buddhist Culture (Sinhala Mahavamsa) mentions this place as an important place which was built by a Vice King pay gratitude for the King resulting a megastructure with a height of 120 yards. This dagoba dates back to the reign of King Maha parakumbha in the years 1153-1186 AD.
