Captain Dawsons Bungalow or Ambepussa Rest House

This house on the left side of Ambepussa Junction was the residence of Captain Dawson, the Chief Engineer of the Colombo-Kandy Highway, which was opened in 1822. After the construction of the road, it became a circuit bungalow and today it is popularly known throughout the island as the Ambepussa Rest House. The Ambepussa Rest House is considered to be the first rest house. The Devagiri Cave Cave Temple is located on the left about 1 km from the Ambepussa Rest House.
